I wasn't exactly planning on making my first post a serious one.
these are the notes I was taking as we were trying to figure out who the fatalities were in Kirkwood last thursday night...Doug is pretty close to some of the cops. and now we know.
this is such a hard thing for me to deal with...not only is it senseless and stupid, but this is the town I was born and raised in...things like this just don't happen in Kirkwood.

I will always remember that night. The sirens and helicopters outside. The local and national coverage. The sound in my friends voices when talking about what was going on. I am so glad you mentioned this subject on your site. It was a night that should have never happened, but we will never forget.
The most heart-breaking moment was when I had to tell Ashley that our neighbor/Mayor had been shot...her response, "Why would anyone want to kill Mayor Swaboda, he's a nice man."
Kirkwood has seen far too much media coverage in the last few years, and not for the right reasons.
The amount of support has been great, though. It's REALLY touching to see so many police officers from so many different communities supporting our fallen officers. May they rest in peace.
oh, yeah. that night is etched in my brain.
we drove by the City Hall to see the flowers...I wanted to get out and look, but the news cameras were a little intimidating.
did you know they are leaving flowers at the police station as well? very cool and touching.
Dad put it best...it's just a couple of bad seeds in the neighborhood. Every single one has 'em. I just can't seem to understand why they all seem to surface at the same flippin time. Lifting up oodles of prayers for the fallen, their families, and dear friends. Only HE can comfort.
I think Kirkwood has had more than its fair share of "bad seeds" the last few years. :(
