my little Hammy is such a little...well, HAM! LOL actually, if you hold her in your lap, she'll move around, but put her somewhere she's not comfortable and she absolutely freezes. makes photography easy but boring. *le sigh* this is me messing around with the macro settings.

Birdie. *sigh* she CANNOT sit still to save her life. (hehe. I guess the whole "keep moving" instinct comes from the need to SAVE HER LIFE...but still). not paying attention? she will run right out of your arms. her need to be contantly moving makes her a challenging subject to photograph. but at least she's interesting.

and OMG. isn't she CUTE!!!!!?? (that discoloration under her chin is from veggies).

this is Hammy as an Easter Egg and Birdie as the Easter Bunny. LOL Hammy was too fat for her costume, but it still cracked me up. you can see Doug's commentary on the whole thing here.

I'm sure you look at this picture and think to yourself..."wow. just another damn guinea pig picture." but here's the thing. I look at this photo and it makes me smile. because Hammy is so damn beautiful (TO ME).

just looking at her makes me happy. and while I've got your attention...look at that back footsie!!! how FREAKING CUTE is that?

I am slowly learning how to use my new camera to get cute pigtures of the little darlin's in their cage. Hammy doesn't cooperate quite as well as Birdie, because as soon as she sees me approach with the camera, she hides...little shit. LOL

so yeah. I actually took a day off work to rebuild the guinea pig cage. LOL its still a 2x3 on bottom, and then split into a 1x2 kitchen and a 1x3 play area on top. they both have room to eat at the same time without fighting, and plenty of room to run on the 1st floor.

but man. building that thing was a BITCH. it took took about 11 hours to do, and I never woulda finished it if Dougalicious hadn't come home and helped me. I have a blister on my thumb, a blister on my knee (yeah, I don't know either) a split finger nail, and a nice cut along my calf. they better enjoy it, the little shits.

Hammy is playing the "you can't see me" game. but guess what, little one? you can't hide from the ZOOM!

it amazes me how little her feet are in comparison to the rest of her. LOL actually, a tad of that is hair...but not much! fat, sweet little piggle...

I adopted this beautiful little boy on Sunday. he's so extremely skittish and squeals when I pick him up. I think he might actually have mites. (mites are so painful that just being picked up hurts). either that, or he is just scared shitless.

no to mention...he was neutered last Thursday and the poor guy is still so swollen that they look like they are going to pop. soooo...we are seeing the vet tomorrow.

that stuffed animal in the pictures? that's his "replacement" snuggler for his siblings. and boy does he snuggle up to it!! ironically, it's a stuffed pig.

he is really cute and very vocal (that little body made more noise this morning screaming for food than my two girls combined ) and I'm already lost.

Pee. Ess. the nicknames "Skids"? so totally appropriate. boars will rub their butts on EVERYTHING.

Pee. Pee . Ess. in that first picture? he is in the middle of letting me know just how unhappy he is, and I am going deaf from the sheer volume and shrillness. what a cutie!!

so, yeah. I rebuilt the damn cage for the 4th and last time. it's three levels, with each level having one (or two) sub levels. and the two hay racks are external so they don't take away from any floor space.

each little piggie has a level all their own, if they want! right now Hammy and Birdie are on the first level (the basement) and Skids is on the third level (the roof). they have to be separated for the next week, and this way when I introduce them, I can open up the whole cage to all three...and it'll all be new, so no territorial disputes. at least, that's the plan.

I cannot WAIT to watch Skids chasing around his wimmens. and maybe those fat sows will lose a little weight running away from the horny (and much younger) boar.

Merry Christmas, all. if you had only half as good a one as I did, then you are pretty lucky indeed. as am I.

so, I wanted to play around with my new lense today, and what better way than with my favorite subject(s), PIGGIES? their herd dynamics is hysterical. Hammy was dominant before I got Skids. since adding him, I haven't been really sure who ruled the roost, because Hammy and Skids hate each other, so they don't interact.

but today? today I learned that Hammy still KICKS ASS. because she found a hidey spot in between the couch cushions already occupied by Skids and kicked his pansy ass out. LOL

but at least Birdie and Skids are the bestest of friends.

Doug was kind enough last night to entertain the herd while I cleaned their cage. when I got done, I noticed I had practically lost him under a pile o' piggies! I really like these photos because they show how Skids , who's only 5 months old, is already as long as Hammy . he's going to be one big pig!

did you know that guinea pigs have only four toes on their front paws and only three on their back paws? no? well, now you do. it's a good day when you can learn something new. yur welcome.

I love me some piggy paws. this cute little tootsie belongs to Birdie. she, more than the other two, sleeps with her back feet stretched out behind her...it makes her back legs look like frog legs. LOVE IT!

Doug actually took this (obviously, right?) and I love it.

over the last several months, Skids has started developing Pea Eye, a genetic issue. it doesn't hurt him at all, but it gives him a distinct puppy dog look that is extremely endearing.

hopefully it won't continue to get worse, because if it starts to block his vision...then surgery will be in order. and who the hell wants surgery? not that little piggy, I can promise you that.

pee. esss. how freaking CUTE is that little piggy butt? makes me just want to pinch it...believe it or not, pigs don't have any fat back there to pinch. everywhere else? oh, yeah. but they have skinny butts. there...now you have your random fact for the day. yur welcome.
